Gravity Barometer Reading Correction Calculator

The gravity barometer correction is based on gravity differences in latitudes. The correction needs to be subtracted from the observed height for latitudes less than 45°, the correction should be added for latitudes greater than 45°. The below gravity barometer reading correction calculator helps you to calculate adjustment barometer correction and new reading barometer correction in Hg and millibars. Just enter latitude and observed barometer reading to get the result.

Formula:

R = O x (- 0.002637 x cos (2L) + 0.000006 x cos2 (2L) ) - 0.00005 S = O + R Where, R = Adjustment Barometer Correction S = New Reading Barometer Correction O = Observed Barometer Reading L = Latitude

Example:

Calculate the Gravity Barometer Reading Correction for the latitude of 20° and Observed Barometer Reading of 50 Hg.

Solution:

R = O x (- 0.002637 x cos (2L) + 0.000006 x cos2 (2L)) - 0.00005
= 50 x (- 0.002637 x cos(2 x 20) + 0.000006 x cos2(2 x 20)) - 0.00005
= -0.103327 Hg

S = O + R
New Reading Barometer Correction (S) = 50 - 0.103327
= 49.896673 Hg
