Species Evenness Index Calculator

Species Evenness is the measurement of the relative abundance of different species, in a way to show the richness of the area. It is mathematically termed as diversity index, means a measure of biodiversity. A different number of metrics are used in calculating the evenness. Use species evenness index calculator to perform Shannon-Wiener index calculation based on the values of Shannon's diversity index, total number of species recorded and the total number of individuals in the sample.

Formula:

Species Evenness = i / Ln((s-1) / Ln(n)) Where, s = Number of Species Recorded n = Total Number of Individuals in the Sample i = Shannon's Diversity Index

Example:

Find the species evenness value in a geographic area where the total number of species recorded is 230, the number of individual samples is 35 and Shannon's index is 25?

Solution:

Species Eveness = 25 /Ln ((230-1) / Ln(35))
= 6.002
