How to Calculate Spherical Cap Volume, Lateral and Total Surface Area - Formula

Definition:

Spherical cap is the section of a sphere detached by a plane. This tutorial explains you how to calculate the Volume, Lateral and Total Surface Area of a plane.

Formula :

Spherical-Cap

Example:

If the height of a plane is 4 meter and radius is 3 , then find the Volume, lateral and total surface area of a plane.

Given,

Height= 4 meter
Radius= 3 meter

To Find,

Volume, lateral and total surface area of the plane

Solution:

Substitute the given values in the formula to find the volume,

Volume =3.14*4*4*(3-4/3)
=3.14*16*(3-4/3)
=83.73 Meter3

Substitute the given values in the formula to find the lateral surface area,

Lateral surface area=2*3.14*3*4
=2*37.68
=75.36 Meter2

Substitute the given values in the formula to find the total surface area,

Circumference =2(sqr(4*(2*3-4)))=2(sqr(8))=5.64
Total surface area=2*3.14((5.64*5.64)+(2*4*4))
=2*3.14(63.8)
=401.92 Meter2
