Heat Transfer Rate through Glass Calculator

Heat is a measure of thermal energy. Heat flows or transfer from the point of higher temperature to the lower temperature. The heat content of an object depends upon its specific heat and its mass. Heat transfer rate is usually expressed in Joules. Use this online heat transfer rate through glasscalculator to find the rate of heat transfer with the values of surface area, thickness, thermal conductivity, inside and outside temperature of the glass.

Formula:

Heat Transfer through Glass = [k x A x (T1 - T2)] / d Where, T1 = Inside Temperature T2 = Outside Temperature A = Window Surface Area d = Window Thickness k = Glass thermal conductivity

Example:

A glass with surface area 40 m2, thickness as 20 m, thermal conductivity as 5 W/m/°C, inside temperature of 250°C and outside temperature of 100°C.

Solution

Heat Transfer through Glass = [k x A x (T1 - T2)] / d
= 5 x 40 x (250-100) / 20
= 1500 W

Heat transfer rate formula is used in problems to find the transfer of heat taking place for any given material.
