Water Velocity Calculator

The speed at which water flows is called as the velocity of water. This online calculator is used to find the velocity of water in a pipe with the flow rate and diameter of the pipe. Flow rates are usually measured by the volume of water that passes each minute. This flow rate can be converted to velocity with the diameter of the pipe.

Formula:

v = ( 0.4085 * f ) / ( d2 ) Where, v = Velocity f = Flow Rate d = Diameter of pipe

Example

Water Velocity

Consider the flow rate as 20 gpm and diameter of the pipe as 30 inches, then the

Water Velocity = ( 0.4085 * 20 ) / ( 302 )
             = ( 8.17 ) / 900
             = 0.009077
Therefore, the Water Velocity is 0.009077 fps
