V Notch Weir Flow Calculator

Triangular Notch is also called as V Notch. The triangular-notch, a thin-plate weir is a convenient, inexpensive, and relatively precise flow-measuring instrument. It is used to meter flow of water in the channel, by measuring the head of water over the v notch crest. Below given Triangular notch weir discharge calculator to calculate the total discharge in a flow system. The V notch weir flow calculator is able to give you reliable results consistently.

Formula:

t = (8 / 15) × d × √ (2 × g) × tan(a / 2) × h(5 / 2) Where, t = Total Discharge g = acceleration of gravity(9.81m/s²) a = Angle of the notch h = Height of the liquid above the apex of the notch(m) d = Coefficient of discharge

Example:

Calculate the V notch weir flow with the coefficient of discharge of 200, angle of the notch of 90° and height of the liquid above the apex of the notch of 100 m.

Solution:

t = (8 / 15) × 200 × √ (2 × 9.8) × tan(90 / 2) × 100(5 / 2))
=47247433.7927 m³/s
