Mean Effective Pressure Calculation

The Mean effective pressure is one of the valuable measures of an engine's capacity to do a work which is independent of the engine displacement. Even though the mean effective pressure contains the word 'pressure' it is not an actual pressure measurement within the engine cylinder. Just enter the values of the number of revolutions per power stroke, torque and displacement volume to in the online MEP calculator for mean effective pressure calculation.

Formula:

Mean Effective Pressure = ( 2 × π × n × t ) / v Where, n = Number of Revolutions Per Power Stroke t = Torque v = Displacement Volume (m³)

Example:

Calculate the mean effective pressure value of engine which has 8 number of revolutions per stroke, 50 Nm torque and 25 m3of displacement volume?

Solution:

Mean Effective Pressure = ( 2 × π × 8 × 50 ) / 25
= 100.531 Pa
