Line of Sight Calculator

Line of sight refers to an imaginary line between two objects. It is a type of propagation where you can transmit and receive data only when the transmitting and receiving station is in view of each other without any obstacles in-between them. The best example of line of communication is FM radio, microwave and satellite transmission. Use our online Radio Line of Sight Calculator to find the line of sight, radio horizon for 1st and 2nd station by providing the antenna height.

Formula:

r=√(2 × h) n=√(2 × t) l=√(2 × h)+√(2 × t) Where, l = Line of Sight h = Antenna Height (1st Station) t = Antenna Height (2nd Station) r = Radio Horizon (1st Station)

Example:

An object has an antenna height of 1st station and 2nd station as 8 feet and 9 feet.

Solution:

Radio Horizon (1st Station) = √(2 × 8)
= 4 miles
Radio Horizon (2nd Station) = √(2 × 9)
= 4.2426miles
Line of Sight = √(2 × 8) + √(2 × 9)
= 8.2426 miles
