Formula:

v) = √(σx2 - (σx x σy) + σy2 + (3 ×τxy2)) Where, σv = Von Mises Stress σx, σy = Normal Stress τxy = Shear Stress

Example:

Calculate von mises stress for normal stress (σx) and (σy) as 7 Pa and 5 Pa and shear stress (τxy) as 9 Pa.

Solution:

σv = √(72 - (7 x 5) + 52 (3 × 92))
= 16.7929 Pa
