True Stress Calculation

Given below is the true stress strain calculator to know the determination of the load acting on the instantaneous cross-sectional area. True stress is the applied load divided by the cross-sectional area of the specimen at that load. It uses actual area of the specimen at any given point, as opposed to the original area used in the engineering values. Refer the below formula to know how the true stress calculation is done based on the applied load and cross-sectional area of the specimen.

Formula:

σt = P / A Where, σt = True Stress P = Applied Load A = Cross-sectional Area of Specimen

Example

Calculate true stress for a load weight of 10kg and cross sectional area of 5 mm2.
σt = 10 / 5
= 2Nmm-2
