True Strain Calculator

True stress and true strain are caused by load. True stress is caused based on the original area whereas true strain is caused based on the original length. A true strain (εt) is a non-linear strain measurement used for large strain simulations. It equals the natural log of the quotient of the current length over the original length. Just enter the successive value of the length and the gage length in the below true strain calculator to get the result.

Formula:

εt = ln L/L0 Where, εt = True Strain L = Change of Length L0 = Initial Length

Example

Calculate true strain for the gage length as 15m and successive length value as 43 m.
εt = ln (43 /15)
= 1.0531
