Example 1:

Let us consider the problem: 18 kg/m3 of liquid flowing in a speed of 15 m/sec and with an area of 12 m2. Calculate mass flow rate of liquid.

Solution:

We can calculate the Mass Flow Rate using the given formula.

Formula:

Mass Flow Rate(kg/hour) = (p x v x a) x 3600 Where, p = Density of the Flowing Liquid or Gas(kg/m3) v = Flow Speed(m/s) a = Flow Area(m2)

Substituting the values in the formula,

Mass Flow Rate(kg/hour) = (15 × 12 × 18) × 3600 = 3240 x 3600 = 1166400 kg/hour

Therefore, the value of Mass flow rate is 1166400 kg/hour.

Example 2:

Refer the below mass flow rate calculation example problem with solution for 8 g/cm3 of air flowing in a speed of 12 m/hr and with an area of 9 cm2. Calculate mass flow rate of air.

Solution:

Substituting the values in the above given formula,

Mass Flow Rate = (8 × 12 × 9) × 3600 = 864 x 3600 = 3110400 kg / hour

Therefore, Mass flow rate is 3110400 kg / hour.
