Formula:

Pressure = (2 x S x T) / D Where, S = Allowable Stress T = Wall Thickness D = Outside Diameter

Example:

A pipe having a allowable stress of 8 Pa, wall thickness of 7 cm and outside diameter of 6 cm. Calculate the internal pressure a pipe can withstand using Barlow's Formula.

Solution:

Pressure = (2 x 8 x 7) / 6
= 0.0027 psig.
