Yarn Count Conversion Calculator

A yarn count is a number pointing the length per unit mass of the Yarn. The textile yarn count calculator determines the yarn count using the direct and indirect methods. In the direct system, the count is used for the measurement of weight, where the length of the yarn is kept as constant. In the indirect system, the count is used for the measurement of length, where the weight is kept as constant. Enter the required values in the yarn count conversion calculator to determine yarn count.

Formula:

(Yarn Count) d = ( w × i ) / ( m × l ) (Yarn Count) i = ( m × l ) / ( w × i ) Where, Yarn Count d = Yarn Count in Direct Count System Yarn Count i = Yarn Count in Indirect Count System w = Weight of the Sample(lb) i = Unit Length of the System(yd) l = Length of the Sample(yd) m = Unit Weight of the System(lb)

Example:

Calculate the indirect and direct yarn count with the sample weight of 50 lb , unit length of the system 15 yd, unit system weight of 10 lb, and length of the sample of 12 yd?

Solution:

Direct Yarn Count = ( 50 × 15 ) / ( 10 × 12 )
= 6.25
Indirect Yarn Count = ( 10 × 12 ) / ( 50 × 15)
= 0.16
