Lung Age Calculator

Lung Age is a term referring to the age of lungs of human with regard to many factors such as smoking, air pollution, etc. It refers to the average age of a nonsmoker with a forced expiratory volume at 1 second (FEV1) equal to that of the person being tested. Lung age (Spirometry results) helps assess premature lung damage suffered as a consequence of smoking. The below Lung Age calculator helps you to calculate the age of lung for smoking cessation using height and FEV1 of person.

Formula:

Lung Age for Female = ((0.0342 × h) - 1.578 - m) / 0.0255 Lung Age for Male = (0.0414 × h - 2.19 - m) / 0.0244 Where, h = Height m = Measured FEV1

Example:

A man 162 cm tall has a Measured FEV1 (Spirometry test result) as 2 Litres. Find his Lung Age ?

Solution:

Age of Lung = (0.0414 × 162 - 2.29 - 2) / 0.0244
= 103.1475 Years
