Learn How to Calculate LDL cholestrol - Definition

Definition:

LDL (Low-density lipoprotein) Cholesterol is the fraction of total cholesterol, that is stored as fat deposits on the arterial walls of the human body.

Formula :
LDL Cholesterol = Total Cholesterol - HDL Cholesterol - (Triglycerides / 5)
Example:

If the total Cholesterol of a person is 400 mg/dL , HDL Cholesterol is 40 mg/dL and Triglycerides is 500 mg/dL, then what will be the LDL Cholesterol?

Given,

Total Cholesterol = 400 mg/dL HDL Cholesterol = 40 mg/dL Triglycerides = 500 mg/dL

To Find,

LDL Cholesterol

Solution:

Substitute the given values in the formula to find the LDL Cholesterol , LDL Cholesterol = Total Cholesterol - HDL Cholesterol - (Triglycerides / 5) = 400 - 40 - 500 / 5 = 360-100 =260 mg/dL
