Formula:

Infant Mortality Rate = (b / d) × 100 Where, b = Total Number of Newborn Deaths d = Total Number of Newborn Discharges (including deaths)

Example:

Find the child death rate if the total number of new born deaths and total number of discharges including deaths are 10 and 20.

Solution:

IMR = (10 / 20) x 100
= 50 %

The IMR mortality rate is a key outcome indicator for newborn care and directly reflects prenatal, intrapartum, and neonatal care.
