Adrenal Washout Calculator

A type of tumor occurring in adrenal glands is the adenoma. It is found during the CT examination of the abdomen for any other reasons. If the unenhanced CT value is found to be below 10 Hemolytic Uremic (HU), it is lipid-rich adenoma. If it is more than 10 Hemolytic Uremic (HU), and washout is greater than 60 % it is lipid poor adenoma. If it is less than 60 %, then biopsy is required. This is a calculator to find the absolute and relative washout.

Formula

Absolute Washout = 100 * (Post HU - Delayed HU) / (Post HU - Pre HU) Relative Washout = 100 * (Post HU - Delayed HU) / Post HU

Example

Adrenal Adenoma CT Washout Calculation

Consider your pre - contrast hemolytic uremic and post - contrast hemolytic uremic to be 40 and 234, and delayed HU is 123.

Your absolute washout is 100 * (234 - 123) / (234 - 40) = 57.216

The relative washout is 100 * (234 - 123) / 234 = 47.435
