Learn How to Calculate Sum of Determinants - Tutorial

Definition:

Sum of determinants is the calculation of addition of determinants of 3 x 3 and 2 x 2 matrices.

Formula:

Sum of determinants = |A| + |B|
Example : 3 x 3 Matrix
A =
243
835
712
and B =
723
425
934
Solution:
Step 1:
|A| = 2(6-5) -4(16-35) +3(8-21)
|A| = 2 + 76 - 39
|A| = 39
Step 2:
|B| = 7(8-15) -2(16-45) +3(12-18)
|B| = -49 + 58 - 18
|B| = -9
Step 3:
|A| + |B| = 39 + (-9) = 39 - 9 = 30
Example : 2 x 2 Matrix
A =
42
53
and B =
54
13
Solution:
Step 1:
|A| = (4x3 - 5x2)
|A| = 12 - 10
|A| = 2
Step 2:
|B| = (5x3 - 4x1)
|B| = 15 - 4
|B| = 11
Step 3:
|A| + |B| = 2 + 11 = 13
