Pythagorean theorem was named after the Greek mathematician **Pythagoras**. He started the Pythagorean School of Mathematics in Cortono, Italy.

This theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two numbers. Here the longest side of the triangle is called as **Hypotenuse**.

It is applicable only when the angle has the right angle, an squares are made on each of the three sides, then the biggest square has the same exact area as the other two squares put together. The longest side of the triangle is c, while other two are represented as a and b respectively.

In algebraic terms Pythagorean theorem can be return as **c ^{2} = a^{2} + b^{2}**.

** Pythagorean theorem** was applied in some advanced level of mathematics for computing the distance between points on a plane; converting between polar and rectangular coordinates; computing perimeters, surface areas and volumes of various geometric shapes. Most important application of Pythagoras theorem is in distance formula.
