Crude Death Rate = ( Number of Deaths / Total Population ) * 10n Where, n = 3 ( for deaths / 1,000 population ) n = 5 ( for deaths / 1,00,000 population )

Example

The Crude mortality rate of a city with population 1,00,000 and number of deaths occurred is 10000 is
     = (10000 / 100000 ) x 1000
     =100/thousand
     = ( 10000 / 100000 ) x 100000
     =10000/lakh
