## Parkland Formula

#### Formula:

According to Parkland Formula
H24 = 4 * Wt * %BSA
H8 = H24 / 2
H16 = H24 / 2

Where,

Wt = Patient Weight
%BSA = Body Surface Area Affected
H24 = Total Fluid Over First 24 Hours
H8 = Fluid Over First 8 Hours
H16 = Fluid Over Next 16 Hours

## Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC)

#### Formula

ANC (cells/mm3) = [(Neutrophil % + Band Cells %) x Total WBC] / 100

Where,

ANC - Absolute Neutrophil Count
WBC - White Blood Cells

## Ideal Body Weight (IBW), Adjusted Body Weight (ABW)

#### Formula:

IBW (kgs) = 22 x (height in meters)2
ABW = IBW + 0.4( actual weight - IBW )

In obese patients, where actual body weight is >30% over calculated IBW, an Adjusted Body Weight (ABW) is often recommended for drug dosing.

## Blood Volume for Male, Female Body

For Males = 0.3669 * Ht in M3 + 0.03219 * Wt in kgs + 0.6041
For Females = 0.3561 * Ht in M3 + 0.03308 x Wt in kgs + 0.1833

Note:
* Ht in M = Height in Meters, which is then cubed
* Wt in kgs = Body weight in kilograms

## Blood Alcohol Content Level

#### Based upon % Ethanol:

[Males] AC = (BAC * BW)/(1.22* % Ethanol)
[Females] AC = (BAC * BW)/(1.51* % Ethanol)

#### Based upon Proof:

[Males] AC = (BAC* BW)/(0.61 * proof)
[Females] AC = (BAC * BW)/(0.75 * proof)

#### Time factor:

Added to this is 20 mg/dL/hr x hrs since ethanol is consumed.

## Diabetes Mellitus Criteria (ADA) Diagnosis

#### Possible Methods to make the diagnosis:

* Symptoms of diabetes, in addition to a random glucose level >=200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L).
* Fasting blood glucose >=126 mg/dL (7.0 mmol/L), after a minimum of an 8-hour fast
* Glucose level >=200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) 2 hrs after glucose challenge (GTT) with standardized 75 gram oral load of glucose

HCO3 deficit = 0.4 x wt(kg) x (desired HCO3 - measured HCO3)

## Lean Body Mass (Weight)

#### Formula:

Lean Body Weight (men) = (1.10 x Weight(kg)) - 128 x ( Weight^2/(100 x Height(m))^2)
Lean Body Weight (women) = (1.07 x Weight(kg)) - 148 x ( Weight^2/(100 x Height(m))^2)

## Serum Ascites Albumin Gradient (SAAG)

#### Formula:

SAAG (g/dL) = Serum Albumin - Ascites Albumin

Where

1. A SAAG >= 1.1 suggests presence of portal hypertension in patients with a transudative ascites.
2. A SAAG < 1.1 suggests absence of significant portal hypertension in patients with exudate ascites.

## Transferrin Saturation

#### TIBC Calculation Formula:

TS = (Serum Iron / Total Iron Binding Capacity) x 100%

Normal reference ranges are :
Serum iron: 60-170 mcg/dl
TIBC: 240-450 mcg/dl
Transferrin saturation: 20-50%
mcg/dl = micrograms per deciliter.

## Metabolic Acidosis Compensation

#### Formula:

Metabolic Acidosis Compensation: Winters Formula
PaCO2 = [(1.5*HCO3) + 8] ÃÂ± 2

where,
PaCO2=arterial part press CO2
Assesses adequacy of compensation for metabolic acidosis
If calculated PaCO2 = actual PaCO2, then compensation adequate.
If actual > calculated, then both met and resp acidosis present.
If actual < calculated, then met acidosis & resp alkalosis present.

## Estimated Creatinine Clearance (ECC)

#### Formula:

Estimated Creatinine Clearance = [ [ 140 - age] x weight x GF ] / [ 72 x serum Cr]

## Plasma Volume of Blood

#### Formula:

Total Body Water = 60% of Body Weight (For Male)
