Median Formula for Grouped Data

In statistics, Median of grouped data refers to the middle most value in a set of the ordered data. Refer the below median formula for grouped data to calculate the middle value for the given data. To calculate this, divide the total number of values by 2 for even data set and for odd data series, add one with the total number of values and then divide it by 2. Sort the data in ascending order before calculating the mean of a set. You can use this median of grouped data formula your reference.

Median of Grouped Data Formula

Formula:

If total number of values(n) in data set is even,
Median=n/2 th data of given data set
If total number of values(n) in data set is Odd,
Median=(n+1)/2 th data of given data set

Where,

n=Total number of values(n) in data set

Related Calculator:

The above median formula for grouped data is given for both odd and even set data. In a group of ordered data set, mean refers to the middle most value. It is calculated for sequentially ordered numeric variables. If the data set is even, the median position will be decimal number and if the data set is odd then the median position will be whole number.
