Median Formula for Grouped Data

Median is the middle most value in the grouped set of data, when the set is arranged in value order. Estimated mean can be calculated by the following steps. Subtract the half of the total number of data with the Cumulative Frequency. Divide the obtained value by Frequency. Add the resultant value with the Lower Class Boundary and multiple the whole result with group width.

Median Formula for Grouped Data

Formula:

Estimated Median Formula for Grouped Data= L + ([(n/2) - cfb] / fm) x w
Where,
L = Lower Class Boundary of the Group Containing the Median
n = Total Number of Data
cfb = Cumulative Frequency of the Groups Before the Median Group
fm = Frequency of the Median Group
w = Group Width
