Static Friction Tutorial

Static Friction Tutorial
Static Friction:
     Static friction is the force between two objects that are not moving relative to each other.

Static Friction Formula :
Static Friction:
Static Friction Coefficient:
Normal Force:
where,
μs = Static Friction Coefficient,
N = Normal Force.

Static Friction Example:
Case 1: A mass is resting on a flat surface which has a normal force of 98N, with a coefficient of static friction of 0.35. What force would it take to move the object?
 N = 98N, μs = 0.35
  Step 1: Substitute the values in the below static friction formula:

This example will guide you to calculate the static friction manually.

Case 2: A 15kg piece of wood is placed on top of another piece of wood. There is 35N of static friction measured between them. Determine the coefficient of static friction between the two pieces of wood.
 N = 15kg x 9.81 m/s2 = 147.15N, Fs = 35N
  Step 1: Substitute the values in the below Static Friction Coefficient formula:

This example will guide you to calculate the Static Friction Coefficient manually.

This tutorial will help you dynamically to find the Static Friction problems.
