Formula:

For Single Phase t = v × i × cos(p) r = v × i × sin(p) For Three Phase t = √3 × v × i × cos(p) r = √3 × v × i × sin(p) Where, t = Real power r = Reactive power v = Voltage i = Current p = Phase Angle

Example:

Calculate the real and reactive power for both the single and three phase with the voltage of 50 V, current of 30 Amps and phase angle of 45°.

Solution:

Single Phase:
t = 50 × 30 × cos(45)
= 1060.6602 watts
r = 50 × 30 × sin(45)
= 1060.6602 watts
Three Phase:
t = √3 × 50 × 30 × cos(45)
=1837.1173 watts
r = √3 × 50 × 30 × sin(45)
= 1837.1173 watts
