Cornering Force Calculator

Cornering force is the lateral force produced by the vehicle while cornering. It is also known as the side force and is a force which is exerted parallel to the road surface. Use the below cornering force calculator to find the vehicle cornering parameters such as total net force, and the maximum speed that the vehicle could follow while cornering. In the below calculator enter the values for friction, gravity, vehicle weight, radius and slope of the road to perform side force calculation.

Formula:

t = u × m × g × sin(a) f = ( u × m × g × sin(a) ) + ( m × g × cos(a) ) v = √ (((( u × m × g × sin(a) ) + ( m × g × cos(a) )) × r ) / m ) Where, t = Static Friction u = Static Friction's Coefficient m = Mass of Vehicle (kg) g = Gravity Accelaration r = Radius (m) f = Total Net Force v = Maximum Speed a = Slope of the Road

Example:

Calculate the vehicle cornering parameters if the static friction Coefficient is 256, gravity acceleration is 235, vehicle mass is 120 kg, 62 m of radius, the slope of the road is 85 degree?

Solution:

By using the above-mentioned formulas, we get, t = 256 × 120 × 235 × sin(85)
= 7191728.7645 N
f =( 256 × 120 × 235 × sin(85) ) + ( 120 × 235 × cos(85) )
= 7194186.5564 N
v =√ (((( 256 × 120 × 235 × sin(85) ) + ( 120 × 235 × cos(85) )) × 62 ) / 120 )
= 1927.9513 m/s
