Oxidation Number of Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the most simple and the common element in the universe. About 10% of weight of living organisms is composed of Hydrogen. The oxidation number of hydrogen is +1 when it is combined with a non metal as in CH4, NH3, H2O, and HCl, and -1 when it is combined with metals such as LiH, NaH, CaH2, and LiAlH4.
