Pearson Correlation Coefficient: It is the measures the association between variables of interest based on the method of covariance. It describes the magnitude of the association, or correlation, as well as the direction of the relationship. It is one of the test statistics that speaks about the statistical relationship or the association between two continuous variables. It is also referred to as Pearson's r or the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (PPMCC) or the bivariate correlation. It has a value between +1 and -1, where 1 is total positive linear correlation, 0 is no linear correlation, and -1 is total negative linear correlation.

Pearson Correlation Coefficient Formula:

Pearson correlation coefficient ( r ) = Σ [ ( X - My )( Y - Mx ) ] / √ [ ( SSx )( SSy ) ] Where, SSx = Σ ( X - Mx ) 2 SSy = Σ ( Y - My ) 2 X = X Values Y = Y Values Mx = Mean of x values My = Mean of y values Σ ( X - Mx ) , Σ ( Y - My ) = Sum of deviation scores Σ ( X - Mx )2 , Σ ( Y - My )2 = Sum of deviation squared

Find what range of values the coefficient can take and how to measure strength of association between the two variables using our online Pearson correlation coefficient calculator.
