Prism Definition:
A prism is a polyhedron made of an n-sided polygonal base, a translated copy, and n faces
joining corresponding sides.
Triangular Prism Definition:
A Triangular Prism is a polyhedron made of a triangular base, a translated copy, and 3 faces
joining corresponding sides.
Triangular Prism Formula:
Area of Base(A) = ½ * a * b
Perimeter of Base(P) = s1 + s2 + s3
Surface Area of Prism = ab + (s1 + s2 + s3)h = ab + Ph
Volume of Prism = ½ * a * b * h = Ah
where
a = altitude, b = base, h = height and s1, s2, s3 are sides

Triangular Prism Example:
Case 1: Find the surface area and volume of a triangular prism with the given altitude 2, base 3, height 4 and the sides
1, 2, 3.
Step 1: Find the area of the base.
Area of the base(A) = ½ * a * b = 0.5 * 2 * 3 = 3.
Step 2: Find the perimeter of the base.
Perimeter of the base(P) = s1 + s2 + s3 = 1 + 2 + 3 = 6.
Step 3: Find the surface area of prism.
Surface Area of Prism = ab + Ph = (2 * 3) + (6 * 4) = 6 + 24 = 30.
Step 4: Find the volume of prism.
Volume of Prism = Ah = 3 * 4 = 12.
The above example will clearly illustrates how to calculate the Volume, Surface Area, Perimeter of a
Triangular Prism manually.
